Cycling Without Age – being a Social Entrepreneur!

Imagine… your parent, or grandparent, or other relative or friend now lives in a nursing or care home. It may be fine, but a bit boring, being stuck in there day after day, not much chance to get out, especially if they are less mobile/able nowadays. Now, imagine if someone arrived with a pedal-powered specially- built trishaw bicycle, to take them out for a spin! No charge, just the chance to take a spin around the local area, feel the wind in their hair, see the sights! Cycling Without Age, www.cyclingwithoutage.ie, a totally voluntary initiative, offers this amazing service to care homes around the world, with volunteer pilots, and I have been granted the first licence to it in Ireland. We now have these special trishaw bikes in locations all around Ireland, with companies sponsoring them, donating them to nursing and care homes and sending their staff as pilots as part of the company’s CSR programme. Healthy Ireland also helps with funding to get CWA trishaws.

In this video, Ole, the founder of Cycling Without Age explains how it all began…

Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, www.socialentrepreneurs.ie so loved the idea of Cycling Without Age that they gave us a much coveted place on their Social Entrepreneurs Academy programme in 2017. Being recognised by SEI gives us support and credibility, it helps to spread the CWA message and gives us valuable connections.
